Virginia Law & Requirements

Virginia law NFPA 72 (National Fire Protection Association) requires a smoke detector:

• In each bedroom
• In the hall just outside each bedroom
• On each story (including basements and cellars but not crawl spaces and uninhabited attics)
• On each level of a split-level house where there is no door between the levels.
